teaching philosophy
My teaching approach is straightforward, patient, humorous, and encouraging. I believe that when you have a real understanding of how your voice functions, you will have a new sense of ownership and respect for your natural singing abilities. I also believe in grounding the body and mind and tuning into your self as a whole before engaging in vocal technique studies. Minfuldness is the name of the game!
Complete beginners and advanced singers of all ages are welcome. I currently teach out of my home studio in Silver Spring (metro accessible) and limited weekdays in Georgetown.
My fee schedule is $50 per hour and $30 per half hour.
coaching
In addition to technical advice, I am skilled in helping singers become more thoughtful, intentional, and expressive artists. I am especially versed in early music styles, from the medieval period through the Baroque, and work with amateurs and professionals alike. I am able to assist with issues of ornamention, style, rhetoric, historical language pronuncation, and phrasing, to name a few.
